Intake Process
Service Partners Only:

CONTACT NIAGARA is committed to protecting your privacy and confidentiality. Our committment is articulated in our Privacy Statement.

1 People calling CONTACT NIAGARA to seek information and / or a referral will speak to a Resource Coordinator immediately. If no Resource Coordinator is available, you will be asked to leave your name and phone number. A Resource Coordinator will return your call, typically within the same day.

2 The Resource Coordinator will ask for a brief description of the situation, and help identify local resources to address the situation. Information about appropriate resources will be provided. If it is determined that a referral to one of our Service Partners is also required, a formal intake appointment will be scheduled at which time more detailed information will be collected.

3 The intake interview is usually completed over the phone taking between 30 - 50 minutes. Intake interviews can also be arranged at the CONTACT NIAGARA Office, various community agencies (Service Providers, Schools, Community Centres, etc.), or in your home.

4 The intake interview involves documenting the current situation, service providers who are / have been involved, and resources being sought to address it. The interview will also be used to identify strengths and challenges in other areas of the individual's life (education, health, family, behavioural).

5 The intake interview for Children's Mental Health Services also involves the administration of a clinical interview tool, known as the Brief Child and Family Phone Interview (BCFPI). This tool provides a clinical picture of the situation for the counselor who will work with the individual.

6 The Resource Coordinator will explain the next steps to accessing the requested service. Depending on the referral, the next step may be for the service partner to contact you directly.

7 Copies of the Intake package (excluding the BCFPI) will be sent to the individual's home and the appropriate service provider. The package will include a written consent that an individual / legal guardian must be complete and return to CONTACT NIAGARA.
