In conjunction with Niagara Support Services, Niagara Training and Employment Agency operates a six bed, wheelchair accessible, respite program. There is planned weekend respite, from Friday to Sunday, throughout the year. There is also up to nine weeks respite support during the summer This is one of two regional respite programs, which is a resource of last resort for children and adolescents (6 - 17.5 years of age) with high needs. This respite program is available to residents of Thorold South, Port Colborne, Welland, Pelham, Niagara Falls, or Fort Erie. Activities during respite vary according to the likes and needs of the children and adolescents attending each weekend. Examples - swimming, fairs, hikes, outdoor activities.
There is a cost of $80 for the whole weekend. Transportation is also available for an additional fee. Families can use funds from their Special Services At Home (SSAH) and / or their Assistance for Children with Severe Disability (ACSD) to pay this fee.

This respite program is available to residents of St. Catharines, Thorold, Niagara-On-The-Lake, Grimsby, Lincoln/West Lincoln, Smithville, and Caistor Centre.
Activities during weekend respite vary according to the likes and needs of the children and adolescents attending each weekend. Examples - swimming, fairs, hikes, outdoor activities.

Bethesda, Autism Spectrum Disorder Respite Services offers a variety of respite opportunities that will assist children (3 - 17 years of age), who have autism spectrum disorder, with learning social skills, life skills and leisure skills. Group sizes are small and run by behaviour therapist assistants. There is a fee of $ 20 per block of sessions for most programs. Programs offered include:
Intensive In-home Respite Support Service: This program will offer in-home respite relief to parents while working in collaboration with the Autism Resource Consultant to implement goals, recommendations and/or behaviour intervention plans. There is no fee for this service.
Coordination of Respite Flex Fund: The Autism Resource Consultant (ARC) will coordinate the distribution of Respite Flex dollars for the region on a quarterly basis while working with community agencies to allot funding equitably. The ARC will complete the Flex Fund Applications and Prioritization Tool with families. Families can access this resource to purchase alternative respite in the community.
Saturday Respite Program: This program will operate on Saturday's at our Schmon site and in the community. Children will learn social skills while they participate in the community outings. Children can sign up for four sessions that run every other Saturday over a two month period. Group hours are either 8:30 - 12:00pm or 12:30 - 4:00pm
After School Social Skills Respite Program: This program operates at our Schmon site as well as in the community. Children will attend group sessions covering topics such as social skills, life skills, coping with anxiety, anger management and leisure skills. Groups run for seven weeks from 4:00 - 7:30 pm once a week.
Preschool Respite Program: This program will be run from our Schmon site as well as locations in the community for children aged 3-5 years. The program will enhance the children's social and play skills and will run once a week for one month. Group hours are either 9:00 - 11:00 AM or 1:00 - 3:00 PM Preschool Social Play Group
Summer Camps: Summer camp will run for six weeks in the summer, Monday to Friday from 9:00 - 3:00pm. Children will attend identified weeks according to their age. Camps may also be available over Christmas vacation and March Break.
Adult Respite

Bethesda operates a four bed regional respite program serving adults (over 18 years of age) who have a developmental disability. The program is operated throughout the year from Friday at 4 pm until Sunday at 2 pm. Individuals will be accomodated a minimum of six weeks between visits. Depending on availability, individuals may be able to access up to two weeks during the months of July and August. The respite program is closed for Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day. Activities during respite may include crafts, games, music, bowling, movies, picnics, swimming, community outings. The cost for a respite is $40 per night. Families can use some of their Special Services At Home (SSAH) funding to pay this fee.
